William Martin "Marty" Johnson, age 60, passed away May 7, 2007 at Clarehouse in Tulsa, OK, after a long battle with melanoma cancer. The youngest of 4 children, he was born February 1, 1947 in Tulsa, to Columbus Mike and Fern Thelma Martin Johnson. Marty grew up on a farm in Inola, OK, and graduated from Inola High School in 1965. He was awarded State Farmer by the Future Farmers Association of America his Senior Year.

During his enlistment in the U.S. Army, Marty, met his future wife, Gwen, while stationed at Fort Polk near Leesville, LA. He served in Vietnam and was a Bronze Star recipient. Upon his return he married Gwendolyn Terrell in 1970.He attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK, and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Marty joined the Tulsa Police Department in 1976 and retired as a Master Patrol Officer in 1996, serving 14 of those years as a motorcycle officer and instructor. He was also a member of the Honor Guard and Special Operations Team. Marty served in the National Guard, where he was on the Governor's Twenty Sharpshooters Team.

After retirement, he worked for the City of Tulsa as a Human Resources Senior Labor Relations Analyst until his illness in November, 2005. He was an appointed member of the Oklahoma Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve committee and was a member of Blue Knights International Motorcycle Club. Over the years, Marty actively served as an ordained deacon and member at First Baptist Inola, Woodland Acres Baptist, Evergreen Baptist and Parkview Baptist. He enjoyed researching genealogy, gardening, photography, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Marty was preceded in death by: his parents, Mike and Fern; and his brother, Orace. He is survived by: his wife, Gwen; and daughter, Erin, both of Tulsa; sisters, Sue Webb of Clarksville, AR, and Doris Ketchum of Tulsa; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
